Grumpy Cat Has Died, Long Live Grumpy Cat

Cats are better than people and I mourn them as such, so this is an extra sad for me. And Grumpy Cat in particular is an internet icon and an icon for grumpy bitches everywhere. Grumpy Cat (born name: Tardar Sauce has sadly passed away at the very young age of 7.

Grumpy’s official Twitter account revealed the sad news, saying she died from complications of a urinary tract infection. They posted about the passing of the angelic grouch:

Tardar Sauce (whose name was reportedly rebranded from “Tard” after she got famous) entered into our hearts after her owner’s brother put up a picture of her mean-mugging face on Reddit in 2012. She was a hit and became a meme-legend and jumped off her Internet meme-fame, branching out into branded merchandise. Grumpy Cat Grumpuccino. Movies. Disney advertisements. The merchandise? Is endless. This cat became a star! She made millions for her owners, like “they, their children, and their children’s children never have to work again” kind of money. She was reportedly worth $100 million. This is the most expensive pussy to pass away, I think.

The internet is taking her death hard, as it should, and she’s trending on Twitter as people share their favorite memes and memories of our dearly departed angel, Grumpy:

Rest in peace, Grumpy Cat. Heaven is a much grumpier place, and that’s a good thing, now.
