Molly the beagle and her possum baby!

Australia saw Missouri’s pony-riding corgi and raised them a beagle-riding possum baby. Nine News Australia brings us another awww-inducing tale of interspecies love (and not in a PornHub category kind of way, you sucio-brained gutter skanks), and this time it’s the sweet love between a beagle who lost her entire litter and a possum baby who lost her mommy. In related news, researchers say that this story could very well replace defibrillation as a medical treatment to get hearts beating again.

Molly’s human, Elle Moyle of the town of Hamilton in southeastern Australia, says that shortly after the pooch gave birth to a litter in January, they all died. Molly fell into a deep depression and constantly looked for her puppies in the yard. The image of Molly searching everywhere for the puppies who flew off to heaven may make you want to break into a pharmacy to steal some Prozac, but things got a little happier for her. While looking for her puppies, Molly found a baby possum, that Elle calls Poss. Poss was abandoned by her mom but found maternal love in Molly. Molly adopted Poss and now the baby possum regularly clings to her dog mommy as they ride through Elle’s property.

Since possums have the sleeping schedule of an Adderall-addicted party girl, Poss spends her days sleeping in the trees, but her dog mommy regularly checks up on her. It took almost 54 years, but the world has finally answered Jackie DeShannon’s call for more love, sweet love with this:

Who knows what will happen when Poss gets older. My guess is when Poss reaches her possum teenage years, they’ll go through a rough patch where Molly will find weed in her place in the trees and ground her for hanging around with the wrong crowd, which will make her scream (in possum), “I wish you never adopted me!” But once they get through that, their mother-daughter relationship will be stronger than ever. Bitch, just let me believe, okay?!

And yes, I already knew the answer, but I still Googled “Do dogs eat possums and do possums eat dogs?” I blame Tom and Jerry for that.
