Burger King’s Andy Warhol Super Bowl commercial!

Q: Is watching Andy Warhol eat a Whopper a more riveting and thrilling experience than watching the Super Boring Bowl and The Half-Assed Show?

A: FUCK YES!

Burger King showed the other brands who did a Super Bowl ad that they don’t need Cardi B, Ridley Scott, a robochild from Hell, and the return of Carrie Bradshaw to put together a perfect commercial. All they needed was some footage of Andy Warhol eating one of their burgers. No, Burger King didn’t CGI Andy Warhol into their ad, or hire Andy Warhol’s fraternal alien twin sister Tilda Swinton to play him in the ad. The ad uses footage Jørgen Leth’s 1982 documentary 66 Scenes From America.

Using the image of a dead man to push fast food crap in a Super Bowl commercial is eight layers of consumerism grossness, and Andy Warhol would probably agree, which is why he would love this ad.

While Andy Warhol may be slow clapping from the afterworld over Burger King’s shamelessness, he’s probably hoping his estate sues the King for defamation for declaring that if you want to #EatLikeAndy, you gotta eat the shit that Burger King poots out. Because as Slate points out, Jørgen said in an interview about the documentary that Andy thought Burger King was okay, but he was much more into the design of McDonald’s.

When he saw the three hamburgers I had ordered, one from Burger King and two neutral products, he said, “Where’s the McDonald’s?” I said we’d get one right away. “It’s the nicest design,” he said. “Let’s not waste time on that. I’ll eat the Burger King.” It was his choice. I hadn’t expected him to be so relaxed about the choice of product. But he preferred McDonald’s because they had the nicest design, in his very professional opinion.

No word if Jørgen got footage of Andy Warhol running to the toilet after eating that Burger King. But honestly, a Burger King commercial showing Andy Warhol caca-ing out the Whopper he ate would’ve still been more thrilling than anything that happened during the Super Bowl. #ShitLikeAndy
