Michael Caine Says That Beyonce Spilled Her Oscar Dreams To Him

Considering Beyoncé would sooner wear hand-me-downs from Kim Kardashian before permitting anything unflattering about her released into the public domain, someone should probably drop by and check on Michael Caine lest the Beyhive seek revenge for his chatty self. Michael and Bey were both in Austin Powers In Goldmember, surprisingly NOT the movie Michael was most ashamed of when asked recently to reflect on his career. While looking back, Michael talked about Bey, and he said she blabbed she was hungry for an Oscar.

Rolling Stone sat down with Michael, who is somehow 85, and they got him to open up about his career that has included more than 170 films. Michael blabbed about The Swarm being the movie he should’ve given a hard pass to, even though it co-starred Henry Fonda, Jose Ferrer, and Ryan Murphy’s BFF Olivia de Havilland. Per Michael, the bees on set shat on the actors before the critics did, and that should’ve been a sign.

Michael was then asked about what it was like starring in the Oscar-snubbed third Austin Powers flick, and he dished on talking with “Be-yons” on set:

“I knew she was a singer and had a group. I asked her one day, ‘What do you want to do with your life, Be-yons?’ I always called her ‘Be-yons.’ And she said, ‘I want to win the Academy Award for acting.’ She was very good in the movie, a very competent actress, and I thought she could get somewhere with this. She’s gone far beyond my world. She’s so big now.”

Fun fact: Beyonce was originally attached to the A Star Is Born remake when Clint Eastwood was directing.

You know Beyoncé gritted her teethe at that nickname and only let him do it because he won an Oscar of his own for Hannah And Her Sisters. Now, per Bey’s Wikipedia filmography, this conversation would have happened sometime after her turn in Carmen: A Hip Hop Hopera and likely when talks were going on for The Fighting Temptations (sigh, Obsessed was just a dream script floating around in heaven!), so clearly B knew she was on the Meryl Streep career path. I just wonder what is going to induce a nervous twitch more after she reads this: being reminded Jennifer Hudson got the Dreamgirls Oscar or that Michael thinks she’s just a “competent” actress!
