Iggy Azalea No Longer Has A Record Label

The musical voice of our generation, Australian rapper Iggy Azalea is no longer associated with a record label. You could say she got dropped by her label, or you could say she liberated herself from her label, but it all breaks down to this singular notion: for better or worse, there will be no Iggy Azalea “music” released in the foreseeable future.

Iggy was with Def Jam, which she left nine months ago to join Island Records. Like other nine month incubation periods, Iggy asserts she was ready to spring herself from Island’s womb in a breech position stilettos first and hit the ho stroll without a pimp. Or was it an emergency cesarean? Hmm… if you listen to Iggy, it was entirely her choice to leave (and surely had nothing to do with that little cancelled North American tour situation earlier this Fall). In either case, Iggy pontificated her happiness of being label-less on Twitter:

It’s unclear why she used the puking emoji to follow her big news, but investigative journalism has uncovered the same calling card on some of her Instagram posts, so it seems that the puking emoji is just her thing. Although Iggy says she’s in the studio working, she claims she’s too Butterfinger brained to bring any new tunes to the masses until next year, so we’ll just have to wait and see what musical opus a free (re: directionless) Iggy Azalea will come up with next.

Complex caught some now deleted tweets from Iggy before her announcement, where she claimed to be in the process of quitting that label bitch for a while:

“I love Island, but don’t want a label, there are conversations happening at the moment,” she said in a now-deleted tweet this week. “I want to be my own boss. I feel I would be better off if I could make my own timeline etc choices and I have the funds to do it.”

Regarding those “funds” she’s talking about, if you want to feel bad about yourself, type “Iggy Azalea net worth” into Google and you will discover that she holds bags of cash anywhere from $6-$10 million dollars. Oh, she’s also been nominated for four Grammy awards. Yes, that’s right. Stop clipping those coupons, dry your tears, and upload your latest yodeling video to YouTube. You, too can become a huge STAH!
