James Gunn Might Be Writing And Directing “Suicide Squad 2”
Anyone still holding out a shred of hope that Disney will have a change of heart and re-hire James Gunn to direct the next Guardians of the Galaxy film better lower their expectations down to zero percent (I’m looking at you, Dave Bautista). Because if this news is true, then DC might be in the midst of poaching James Gunn to the other side of superhero franchises.
It’s been almost three months since the internet re-discovered some problematic tweets made by James Gunn and he was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Disney was pretty adamant that they wanted James no where near the third Guardians film, which left him open for new possibilities, like the unemployment line. Except several sources tell The Wrap that James is currently in talks to write and direct Suicide Squad 2. Fitting, considering James is hara-kiri on his career.
Last year, Mel Gibson was rumored to be attached to direct the sequel, but it sounds like he’s out. Suicide Squad’s original director David Ayer is working on Gotham City Sirens, and never planned on returning, due to some messy creative differences with Warner Bros. Sources say that James will have a “completely new take” on the sequel.
James Gunn hasn’t commented on making the move from Marvel to DC, because he doesn’t really tweet anymore. David Ayer had something to say, and he thinks it’s a good choice. He isn’t being sarcastic.
I think it’s an incredibly brave and smart move by the studio. James is the right man for the job! https://t.co/KaVD3dQosR

James Gunn seems like a natural choice for Warner Bros. and DC, considering that many see Suicide Squad as a cheap knock-off of Guardians of the Galaxy. Guardians was released in 2014, Suicide was released in 2016. Both feature a bunch of quirky characters and an outdated karaoke machine’s worth of 70s and 80s hits. Both also made a ton of money. The only issue would be with who would play The Joker, as James has implied multiple times in the past that Jared Leto is an underage girl chaser. So if James is in, there’s a chance Jared might be out. Sorry Jared, it looks like all that work on a 30 Seconds to Mars mixtape titled Really Cool Joker Jamz that you were saving for the sequel was for nothing.
