Evangeline Lilly Didn’t Love Her Job, Or Her Character On “Lost”

If you hated Kate on Lost, you’re not alone. Evangeline Lilly also hated Kate on Lost. Errybody hates Kate! Evangeline recently appeared on The Lost Boys podcast and talked mad shit about Kate Austin, the character she played for 6 seasons on Lost. She also talked about a couple of bad experiences she had on the show, which explain why you won’t be seeing her titties on the screen anytime in the near future.

Miss Vangie says that Kate was “kind of cool” for the first couple of seasons, but the character started annoying the shit out of her when she got all boy crazy. Of Kate she said (via E!):

“At the beginning, she was kind of cool. And then as the show went on, I felt like she became more and more predictable and obnoxious. I felt like my character went from being autonomous—really having her own story and her own journey and her own agendas—to chasing to men around the island. And that irritated the shit out of me.”

The love triangle between Kate, Party Of 5, and Huckleberry Sawyer (please do not @me) became a real problem for Vangie.

“I did throw scripts across rooms when I’d read them,” she said, “because I would get very frustrated by the diminishing amount of autonomy she had and the diminishing amount of her own story there was to play.”

Lord, ain’t that the truth though. Love triangles are so fucking lazy. Besides, there is always one obvious “right” choice. It goes Pacey over Dawson, Vampire Eric over Vampire Bill, Brenda over Kelly, Spike over Angel, Speedman over Foley; and for Kate, it should have been an easy Huckleberry Hound over The Pussy Puncher. The rule is, always pick the least dopey option!

…there’s nothing wrong with women’s lives being characterized by their relationships; I think that often happens to men and women. But, there was this eventual lack of dimension to what was going on with her. It was just really, ‘Jack? Sawyer? Jack? Sawyer?”

Another thing that upset Evangeline enough to make her throw her script at the wall, was being asked to do nudity.

“In Season 3, I’d had a bad experience on set with being basically cornered into doing a scene partially naked, and I felt had no choice in the matter. I was mortified and I was trembling, and when it finished, I was crying my eyes out and I had to go on do a very formidable, very strong scene immediately thereafter,” the actress recalled.

She went on to say they made her do another partially nude scene in Season 4, and even though she tried to exert some control over that situation, she wasn’t able to and it made her feel gross. After that she told them “You can write whatever you want—[but] I won’t do it. I will never take my clothes off on this show again.’ And I didn’t.” Evangeline says she knows how lucky she is now that she can pick and choose what she will and will not do. And what she ain’t gonna do, is nudity. She got that Ant-Man/Marvel clout now.
