Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder Issued A Statement About That Pill Story

September 25, 2017 / Posted by:

Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder have issued an apology for giving everybody the skeeves with their “ha ha Ian threw out my birth control pills” story they told on a recent episode of the Informed Pregnancy podcast . It seems not everybody thought Ian’s antics were adorable and quite a few accused him of reproductive coercion.

According to People:

On Saturday, Nikki Reed shared a statement from her and her husband Ian Somerhalder about how sorry they both were about the controversy stemming from an interview where they discussed how they decided they wanted to have a child.

Here’s the statement which was released on Twitter:

See, it counts as an apology because it contains the words “deeply sorry” in it. It’s a classic “sorry you were offended” apology instead of a “sorry we were ding-dongs” apology (see Lawrence O’Donnell for a sincere, gentleman’s apology). The ALL CAPS in this note tell a truer story. It seems Nikki was really butt-hurt over all the negative attention the story brought and spent the previous day scolding the media for taking their go-to party anecdote and turning it into something sinister.

Prior to their statement, Nikki posted this to Twitter.

Oh shit, is she talking to ME?! No, sadly dlisted escaped her personal wrath. People suggests this Cosmopolitan Australia article may be the “Dear Writer” in question. My dream of pissing off a wood nymph and her precocious elf is sadly still just that, a dream.

All this negative attention must be really disappointing to Nikki and Ian because it’s super off brand. She should be getting clicks for her mare’s milk and nettle womb cleansing tea or her sustainable carbon reducing hemp silencing mask, not this dumb reproductive rights controversy! Nikki is an earth mother and everything about her pregnancy from start to finish was supposed to be perfect. Now we’ve ruined it and Nikki and Ian are going to have to come up with a new cute anecdote because the old one is over, it’s canceled. Thanks for nothing!
