Drake Still Isn’t Sure Why Kanye West Came For Him

February 22, 2017 / Posted by:

During Kanye West’s Saint Pablo Tour, he went after Beyonce, Jay Z, Kid Cudi, DJ Khaled and also Drake. Not too long after, Kanye had a breakdown and spent time in the hospital. Drake recently gave his thoughts on the situation and he’s confused as the rest of us.

During the same Sacramento, CA show in which Kanye slapped at Beyonce, he also ranted about Drake and DJ Khaled’s song For Free. Kanye was mad that his music wasn’t getting played on the radio as much as For Free was and implied that their song was over-played. Kanye recently denied that he ever said Drake and DJ Khaled were over-played. But Drake still took it as a diss, which brings us to present day.

In an interview recorded last week in the UK with DJ Semtex for OVO Sound Radio, Drake said that he thinks Kanye’s panties got in a bunch because the verse he and Jay Z recorded for his song Pop Style was cut from the album Views. Kanye originally blamed this act of treason (treason against Kanye’s genius) on Jay Z being mad that Drake is shacked-up with Apple and not Tidal. Drake didn’t get into specifics about why it was cut; he simply said it became “a bit of an issue” and decided to finish the song himself. So Kanye was mad, and Kanye threw a temper-tantrum. Drake was asked if the situation was the result of “digital politics.” But Drake’s answer makes it sound like it was Kanye politics.

“I don’t know, I think everybody has their own little things going on. I’m not really sure what he’s referring to half the time. Because in the same breath, I went from being, like working on a project with him, to him sorta publicly shitting on me and DJ Khaled for being on the radio too much.

But yeah I’m not really sure, everybody’s got their own thing going on. Again, me when I hear that, I just distance myself from it you know, alright if that’s what it is. I don’t really even understand the point you’re trying to make. But whatever it is that you’re going through, I accept it. I don’t respect it at all. You know, because I feel like me and Khaled are just good people. I’m not sure why we’re the target of your choice that you made that night. And yeah I accept what you’re going through, and I just go and continue working on my own thing.

You know the more and more this progresses, the more and more I just feel like keeping to myself, because it’s just so unpredictable, you never know which way people are gonna go.”

Drake also talked about skipping the Grammys last week. Drake won Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for Hotline Bling. If you happen to see those two awards propping open a door somewhere or sitting in the trash, here’s why. Drake doesn’t want them because he considers Hotline Bling to be a pop song.

“I am mixed. I am Jewish. But when it comes to everything else, I’m black. I am referred to as a black artist. Last night, at that awards show, I’m a black artist. I’m apparently a rapper. You know, even though Hotline Bling is not a rap song. The only category they can manage to fit me in is in a rap category…I’m speaking to you as a winner from last night. I won two awards last night. But I don’t even want them. It just feels weird. It just doesn’t feel right to me.”

You can listen to his whole interview here, but the Kanye part starts at the 18:11 mark and his Grammy slap happens at the 23:28 mark.

It’s really too bad that things are weird between Drake and Kanye, because I could totally see them bonding over their mutual hatred of the Grammys. At the very least, I would love to see Kanye try to figure out what they should do with Drake’s future unwanted awards. The part of him that wants to back over the awards with his car would be fighting against the part of him that gets off on being rewarded for being the best at something. “I…I can’t. I have to sit down, this is too difficult of a decision.
