When Ciara and Russell Wilson first started dating each other back in 2015, they made a big deal of letting everyone know that they were not going to do each other until after they said “I do.” Ciara and Russell are living that Jesus life, and part of their Jesus journey meant keeping their goodies in the jar as a way to get to know each other better. Ciara has no regrets and would go sexless again if she had the chance.

Ciara talked to Cosmopolitan South Africa (via E! News) about keeping her cooch closed in the months leading up to her marriage. According to Ciara, Russell presented her with the idea of saving themselves for marriage as a way to focus on their friendship first. She also thinks it’s important to save your body for someone who wants to stick around.

“I really believe that when you focus on a friendship, you have the opportunity to build a strong foundation for a relationship—and once you know you’re really great friends and you’re what we call ‘equally yoked,’ where you share the same values or the same outlook on life, it kind of sets the tone.

It’s important to have a friendship. It’s important to have standards. You shouldn’t feel like you have to give your body away to get someone to like you.”

Ciara and Russell got to humping about six seconds after they got married, and now they’ve got a baby on the way.

I know what Ciara is trying to get at about making sure someone isn’t with you just for sex, but her analogy is a little wonky to me. You’re not necessarily giving your body away like a free Costco sample when you decide to drop it nasty on someone. Personally, I see it more like test driving a used car. Who cares if the driver’s seat has seen tons of random ass? You want to make sure that if you do decided to bring it into your life, that it doesn’t chug along like a low-battery PowerWheels at the end of a long day.
