Woody Allen And Mia Farrow’s Son Claims She Brainwashed And Abused Him
It’s not exactly a surprise if an unsettling allegation is made by one of Woody Allen’s children. Except in an uncharacteristic turn of events, the latest allegations to be made by a child of Woody has nothing to do with their dad. People says that Moses Farrow, the adopted son of Woody Allen and Mia Farrow, has accused his mother of emotional and physical abuse, and “brainwashing.”
The accusations are made in a new book about Woody Allen’s film career called Start to Finish: Woody Allen and the Art of Moviemaking by Eric Lax. The New York Times published an excerpt from the book where Moses comes to his dad’s defense by accusing his mom of some Mommy Dearest shit.
Moses Farrow’s allegations are a response to the sexual abuse allegations his younger sister Dylan Farrow made against her father in 1992, which she wrote about again in 2014 in an open letter. Shortly after Dylan’s open letter, Moses – who is a family therapist – denied the allegations and accused his mom of planting the idea in Dylan’s child brain. Dylan responded by publicly slapping back at her older brother.
According to the book excerpt, Moses says much of the same as he has before, but he gives a few examples this time around. Moses accuses Mia of being “emotionally manipulative and physically abusive.” Like allegedly striking him in an attempt to get him to “bend to her will.” He still also believes that Mia coached Dylan to accuse Woody of sexual abuse. Moses says he has decided to speak out because he’s not afraid of his mother.
“Now that I no longer live in fear of her rejection, I am free to share how she cultivated and brainwashed me.”
Moses wasn’t always such a cheerleader for Team Woody. In 1992, shortly after Woody and Mia’s marriage broke up (due to Woody getting busy with Mia’s adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn), Woody sued for custody of Moses (then 14). Moses was called by Mia’s lawyers to submit a written testimony, and it was pretty brutal. Moses wrote:
“You’ve done a horrible, unforgivable, needy, ugly, stupid thing. If you bring us to court…I hope you get so humiliated that you commit suicide. I do know that you can’t force me to live with you. I just want you to know that I don’t consider you my father anymore. It was a great feeling having a father, but you smashed that feeling.”
So what to believe? Are those the thoughts of a pissed-off teenager, or the brainwashed words of a kid being used for revenge by their allegedly emotionally abusive mom? I’m inclined to believe it’s the first, if only because it wasn’t unlikely at my school to hear someone in the 8th grade call someone ugly or dramatically scream “I hope you kill yourself” at recess.
Mia Farrow has responded to her estranged son’s allegations by releasing the following statement:
“Moses has cut off his entire family, including his ex-wife who was pregnant when he left. It’s heartbreaking and bewildering that he would make this up, perhaps to please Woody. We all miss and love him very much.”
Mia outing Moses as the type of dude who skips town on his pregnant wife was a bold move. Yes, it just made this situation an extra layer of messy. But it also momentarily distracted us all from the awful abuse allegation grossness, and I think we can appreciate that.
