Duke, the Roll That Beautiful Bean Footage Dog from Bush’s Baked Beans commercials!

Not a week goes by when I don’t burp up the iconic line, “Roll that beautiful bean footage,” because I like showing my age while annoying the fuck out of those around me. That line is the catchphrase of Duke, the doggy mascot of Bush’s Baked Beans. And all the doggies who played Duke truly helped make the 90s an era of WTF by “talking” in a commercial for baked beans.

Bush’s Baked Beans has been around since the 1960s, and since the 90s, its mascot has been Duke. At the beginning of the 1990s, Bush’s Baked Beans heir, Jay Bush, starred in an ad campaign focused on the “secret family recipe” of his family’s baked beans. At the time, Jay had a golden retriever named Duke so they decided to put Duke in the commercials. But the real Duke wasn’t trained for the cameras, so they brought in several doggy actors to play Duke. One of the doggy actors was Sam, who died a little over five years ago, and went to the great big Bush’s Baked Beans can in the sky.

Duke still stars in Bush’s Baked Beans ads today, but in the 1990s, Duke was a commercial sweetheart who kept the secret family recipe to himself and worked hard to promote the baked beans he couldn’t eat because it’d make his doggy b-hole explode.

Honestly, Duke needs to teach a master class at Juilliard, because nobody has really read a line the way Duke has read that beautiful bean footage-summoning line!
