LEGO Paradisa!

LEGO Paradise was a glamorously tropical LEGO set that came out in 1992, and I wish it would have hit toy store shelves in the 1980s instead. Because by 1992, I was a little too mature and grown to play with LEGOs (cut to me in 1992, playing with my friend’s little sister’s Polly Pocket collection).

In 1978, LEGO debuted its Town theme of playsets that were centered around a town. There was an airport playset, a city center playset, a seaport playset, and more. But it took over a decade for LEGO to deliver its greatest Town playset: Paradisa! Just saying that shit makes flecks of pastel pink glitter leap off my tongue. Paradisa was where the citizens of LEGOLand went to rest their square parts in brick-built tropical luxury! LEGO’s Paradisa line was made up of several vacation-themed playsets like Poolside Paradise (above), Sunset Stables, Dolphin Point, Sand Dollar Cafe, Roling Acres Ranch, and Seaside Holiday Cottage. According to Brickipedia, the LEGO Paradisa sets were the first ones to feature the color pink. The reason for that? LEGO Paradisa was marketed toward girls, and that makes sense. Because back in the day, if a toy for girls didn’t have pink in it, it was immediately banished to the boy’s section!

Here’s a commercial for the glorious LEGO world of Paradisa, which, if you added LEGO cocaine, could’ve doubled as LEGO Miami Vice playsets.

While LEGO’s glorious Paradisa playset may look like a heavenly vacation wonderland, I’m sure that stepping on one of its bricks left on the carpet still made parents curse it as being an ugly demon from HELL.
