The Comedy Duo Of Desus & Mero Has Split

Learning that superhero talk show hosts Desus Nice and The Kid Mero are never, ever getting back together lit a fire under my ice-cold heart. The two have been representatives for the culture since their original podcast Desus vs. Mero catapulted into a successful talk show run on both Viceland and Showtime. But recent cracks have been forming in their almost decade-long partnership which caused their fans to wonder if something was going on behind the scenes. And although many theories have come into play one involving newly single Anna Kendrick suggests she may be the reason they’ve both decided on a conscious uncoupling of their business relationship.

Desus and Mero have been sending each other (and their fans) cryptic shots on Twitter for the past few months, leaving everyone to finally understand that love is dead and money ruins everything. Complex reports that after much speculation on whether or not they would be returning to their show Desus & Mero, Showtime finally stepped in and answered fans’ questions with a resounding “NAH SON!

“Desus Nice and The Kid Mero will be pursuing separate creative endeavors moving forward,” the statement reads. “SHOWTIME’s late-night talk show DESUS & MERO will not be returning for a fifth season. Its final episode aired Thursday, June 23.”

“Desus Nice and The Kid Mero have made a name for themselves in comedy and in the late-night space as quick-witted cultural commentators,” the statement from Showtime continued. “Throughout its run, the series won a WGA Award, received Critics’ Choice and TCA Award nominations and scored interviews with President Barack Obama, President Joe Biden, Derek Jeter, Missy Elliott, Denzel Washington, Charlize Theron, David Letterman, Yo-Yo Ma and many more.”

Fans have been mourning the show’s loss since the news broke, because many of them have been following Desus and Mero since their early days on Complex TV. However, tensions were bubbling behind the scenes with some fans keeping an eye out for more answers about exactly what was going on.

While Mero has remained silent on the situation, Desus thanked Showtime for the opportunity with a positive outlook on the future.

So now you’re wondering “What the hell does Anna Kendrick have to do with this?” Honestly, that’s still a bit unclear. Some fans believe that Desus has been changing since the move to Showtime. And others believe his impromptu international trips with Anna and her friends might mean they’re both involved in a “friends with benefits” arrangement.

Although there is really no evidence that Yoko Kendrick is the real reason behind their break-up, the streets need answers! And over on the bulletin board known as Twitter, many fans have conspiracy theories aplenty.

If there was ever a moment for prayer and couple’s therapy, this is it. And the first thing the therapist should do is whack them both upside the head with a notepad for deliberately walking away from a Showtime check.
