Beyonce Released “Break My Soul,” The First Single From Her Upcoming “Renaissance” Album

I must admit I wasn’t ready for Beyonce‘ to drop any new music just yet. After she recently announced she was pregnant with a new album I figured she would take her sweet time and string us along for months until BAM! Renaissance would just appear and the world would melt with delight. But this time around she’s taking a more traditional approach by deciding to release a single, Break My Soul, ahead of her album’s release. And of course, the Beyhive is creaming their jeans in anticipation now that their Queen has blessed them once again with a new anthem for summertime and beyond.

The first thing I said after listening to Break My Soul  was “God Damn You Beyonce’!” Because I can guarantee you we will be hearing this damn song EVERYWHERE for the next six months. And Billboard agrees.

The house-tinged new song is dance-floor ready, with its piano production, crisp snares and Bey harmonizing with herself. “You won’t break my soul,” she repeats in the chorus, surely creating a new mantra that will grace T-shirts and coffee mugs to come. Previous Queen B collaborator Big Freedia can be heard chanting, “Release your anger, release your mind.”

While starring on the July 2022 cover of British Vogue, editor-in-chief Edward Enninful describes the Renaissance as such: “Music that makes you rise, that turns your mind to cultures and subcultures, to our people past and present, music that will unite so many on the dance floor, music that touches your soul.”

Check out Break My Soul below.

Renaissance will most likely have this house-lite/disco pop vibe throughout, so Beyonce is about to really become the Queen of Pride season even when the calendar strikes July! And the Beyhive is gagging and death-dropping on floors all over the world now with the release of Break My Soul. Of course, they ran to their favorite bulletin board, Twitter, to praise their queen as her honey still drips from their ears.

Beyonce is no fool. It’s Pride month, it’s hot as hell outside and gas prices will see to it that we all have our Hot Girl Summer indoors. So releasing a track like this with Big Freedia was a no-brainer. And as for Freedia’s involvement, she also took to Twitter to shout Beyonce out with words of adulation for yet another collaboration. Or as I like to call it: “Thanks for the check bitch!

So there you have it, Beyonce has once again commanded us all to get in formation and with this track, the formation will more than likely be the longest Soul Train line you’ve ever seen in your entire life.
