Julian Glander, the Jeopardy! contestant who freaked everyone out by singing the alphabet in reverse!

On Friday’s episode of Jeopardy!, an animator from Pittsburgh named Julian Glander not only gave me “a member of One Direction auditioning to replace Mister Rogers in the 2000s” with his look, but he also gave me a case of the fucking spooks when he sang the alphabet in reverse. Julian didn’t win, but if his goal going into the show was to make people reach for the holy water by showing off his scary talent. he definitely won at that!

Going into Friday’s game, Jeopardy!’s current-reigning champion, Mattea Roach, had won 18 games. Julian was one of the two contestants who wanted to take her down. That didn’t happen since Mattea won her 19th game on Friday and has won over $460,000 so far. But Julian got a little viral attention for a WTF-worthy skill. During the mid-part of the show where guest host Ken Jennings had a little chat with the contestants, he mentioned Julian’s “very unusual talent.” Julian explained it like this:

“Well, Ken, a lot of people can sing the alphabet backward. I can sing it fully in reverse.”

Ken wondered if singing in reverse is the same thing as singing backward, and according to Julian, it’s not. Julian then served up his talent, and Ken Jennings pretty much called it David Lynchian. But I call it Luciferarian! Because while listening to Julian let out what sounded like some kind of evil ancient chant, I channeled reality show icon, Marguerite Perrin, by screaming, “IT WAS SO DOARK-SIDED!”

I see what Julian was trying to do there, though. Julian was probably thinking that he could scare Mattea so much that she’d become frozen with fear and unable to form words and so he’d easily take the crown from her. But Julian’s evil genius plan (that only exists in my head) failed. Nice try, Julian, because I guess, Mattea Roach’s nerd powers know no bounds!
