Open Post: Hosted By The Student Who Interrupted A Zoom Class To Talk About Her Break-Up

March 12, 2022 / Posted by:

As Neil Sedaka once said, “Breaking up is hard to do.” But you know what isn’t? Venting to everyone about it! If you’ve had a crummy breakup, you know one of the best ways to get over it is to talk about it with your best friends. That’s what this student was doing while she was in a Zoom class. However, she wasn’t on mute as she believed, so the whole class heard the over 3-minute tale!

A clip of this girl’s venting session was uploaded onto TikTok by fellow university student Delaney and has gotten over 298,000 views. TikTok is where you can learn cleaning hacks, discover some brand spanking new conspiracy theories, and listen to the tale of a breakup in the span of 1 minute. This is definitely what those nerds who created the internet envisioned it would be used for! via Newsweek:

A student went viral after footage of her interrupting a Zoom lecture to vent about her breakup without realizing she was unmuted was shared to TikTok.

The video, posted by Delaney or @baconlettucetomatofan, received more than 298,000 views on Thursday and left viewers shocked that the teacher did not just mute her mic and let the student go on for several minutes.

“This was a story time fr,” the caption of the video read. “We had no choice but to listen. Girly if u see this sorry we tried to warn u but u made class entertaining for sure!”

In the video, a class of more than 15 students was in a Zoom lecture when one student was unmuted and started speaking.

When the video starts, the student, who was mid-story, can be heard talking about getting pulled over.

“I turned around in that one-way cause that cop was flashing his lights at me,” she said as the professor sat back and listened. “Bro I ran a red light and turned into a one-way and he just let me go.”

“This has been going on for like 3 minutes and she isn’t hearing anyone when we tell her she’s off mute,” the on-screen text explained.

Delaney explained in the comments that the professor later told the newly single student that she could stay after class if she wanted to talk more. That’s nice and all but as some pointed out in the comments, Zoom hosts have the power to kick-off or mute attendees, so why didn’t the teacher cut the mic? That’s a shady move! You can see in the video that she is fully engrossed in the story. I guess when you’re holding lectures like this every day, maybe some low-stakes gossip is a breath of fresh air!
