Pixar Employees Reveal That Disney Censors “Nearly Every Moment Of Overtly Gay Affection” In Their Movies

In a response to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which restricts the discussion of LGBTQ topics in schools in the state, employees of Pixar revolted with their words and exposed their own company in a letter. You will be SHOCKED to learn that Disney censors same-sex affection from its films.

Disney does big business in Florida and was called out for not opposing the bill, which was passed this week and is expected to be signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis. And on top of that, CNBC says that it was revealed that “the company provided financial support for some of the bill’s backers in the state legislature.“Disney CEO Bob Chapek tried to cover his and the company’s ass by saying that he had a talk with Ron about the bill and was told it would not harm the LGBTQ+ community. HA! via Variety:

“Gov. DeSantis committed to me that he wanted to make sure that this law could not be weaponized in any way by individuals in the state or groups in the state to unduly harm or target gay, lesbian, nonbinary or transgender kids and families.”

Bob continued to do damage control by sending a memo to Disney employees saying that the company can have the “biggest impact” by “creating a more inclusive world… through the inspiring content we produce.” Pixar employees call “Bullshit!” and are clearly not vibing with the reaction their Disney overlords have had to the homophobic legislation, and a letter from “the LGBTQIA+ employees of Pixar, and their allies” was released to media. It was first reported by independent journalist, Judd Legum. Pixar’s Luca (seen above in the header) has been compared to Call Me By Your Name so I’m sure Disney executives just love that.

Variety says that in the letter, Pixar employees laugh at Bob’s claim about “creating a more inclusive world” because they say that Disney executives don’t want Pixar movies to be TOO GAY.

In a statement attributed to “the LGBTQIA+ employees of Pixar, and their allies” obtained by Variety, employees of the animation studio allege that Disney corporate executives have demanded cuts from “nearly every moment of overtly gay affection… regardless of when there is protest from both the creative teams and executive leadership at Pixar.”

According to the Pixar letter, that claim is at odds with employees’ experience of trying to create content with same-sex affection approved by Disney executives.

“We at Pixar have personally witnessed beautiful stories, full of diverse characters, come back from Disney corporate reviews shaved down to crumbs of what they once were,” the letter states. “Even if creating LGBTQIA+ content was the answer to fixing the discriminatory legislation in the world, we are being barred from creating it.”

The letter also shit on Bob who has said that Disney is going to donate $5 million to the Human Rights Campaign. The Pixar employees call on Disney to stop donating to politicians who supported the anti-LGBTQ bill and take an actual stance on the issue:

“While signing on to donate to the HRC is a step in the correct direction, the shareholder meeting on Wednesday made it clear that this is not enough. …Disney did not take a hard stance in support of the LGBTQIA+ community, they instead attempted to placate “both sides”–and did not condemn hateful messages shared during the question and answer portion of the meeting.”

The letter also points out that Disney took a political stance recently by pulling its theatrical releases in Russia after Putin invaded Ukraine.

As for that donation to the HRC, they aren’t moved by it and will refuse Disney’s money until “meaningful action” is taken to fight the bill. The interim President of HRC, Joni Madison, says in a statement:

“Businesses have had and continue to have a major impact in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, from marriage equality to the defeat of House Bill 2 in North Carolina and beyond. While Disney took a regrettable stance by choosing to stay silent amid political attacks against LGBTQ+ families in Florida–including hardworking families employed by Disney–today they took a step in the right direction. But it was merely the first step…

HRC encourages Disney, and all employers, to continue to fight for their employees–many of whom bravely spoke out to say their CEO’s silence was unacceptable–and the LGBTQ+ community by working with us and state and local LGBTQ+ groups to ensure these dangerous anti-equality proposals that harm LGBTQ+ families and kids have no place in Florida…

Every student deserves to be seen, and every student deserves an education that prepares them for health and success–regardless of who they are. This should be the beginning of Disney’s advocacy efforts rather than the end.”

It’s kind of rich that Mickey Mouse refuses to fully fight that bill when Disney’s very queer Mickey, Donald, Goofy: Three Musketeers exists. I mean, is this you, Mickey?!
