The Adorable Sheepherder-In-Training!

“Did I caca that out or is that a really strange-looking baby sheep?” is probably what that grown sheep is thinking. But that little blurry ball of fluff is an Anatolian Shepherd puppeh who has brought the awwws in a clip that has made the rounds of them trying to guide a flock of sheep.

The clip answers three of the five Ws (Who? What? Where? When? Why?). We don’t know where or when it was filmed, but we know the answers to “who?” (a flock of sheep and their adorable boss), “what?” (what’s going on is every layer of cute), and “why?” (because the sheepherder-in-training has a job to do!). Newsweek says that the clip came from Reddit and was spread around from there. It shows the little sheepherder trotting along with the sheep and at one point, three sheep sniff at their tiny boss like, “Well, at least our boss isn’t a little pig,” before accepting ’em as their new leader and carrying on. Here’s the sweet clip. It’s like the cute version of Tommy Cruise bossing around the cast and crew on his movie sets:

That little sheepherder may be the size of an Olsen now but will get just a little bit bigger. Just a little. via AKC:

An Anatolian Shepherd Dog is a rugged, imposing flock guardian of ancient lineage. Protective and territorial, but also intelligent, patient, and profoundly loyal, these muscular avengers are prized as working guard dogs without equal. The Anatolian Shepherd Dog stands between 27 and 29 inches at the shoulder and can weigh as much as 150 pounds. Profusely muscled but nimble afoot, Anatolians are more than a match for the predators and harsh terrain of their homeland. Anatolians descend from some of the oldest known domestic-canine bloodlines. This lends the breed a sense of timelessness, a no-frills, untouched quality that takes us back 6,000 years to the Bronze Age. Anatolians are smart, devoted, responsive, and adaptable. They will protect their flock, livestock, children, smaller dogs, even the family cat with intensity. Anatolian owners must be strong leaders, willing and able to handle a dog as dominating and demanding as he is calm and loving.

That clip and the AKC’s description are really selling me on an Anatolian Shepherd Dog. If they can protect and guide an entire flock of sheep, they can guide me through my mess of a life. “We’re not that good!” said every Anatolian Shepherd Dog.
