The Wannabe Skateboarding Labrador!

When I was eight or nine years old, my mom finally gave in to my nerve-destroying whining and begging and bought me a skateboard at the swap meet. She was probably “errr-ing” about the idea of getting me a skateboard because she knew that I was about as coordinated as a drunk baby horse who just got off a Tilt-A-Whirl and would bust my face on the sidewalk. Her deductible was too high to deal with taking me to the ER all the time. And she was right! My face hit pavement more than I was able to balance on that skateboard and I quit after a quick minute. And I knew this then, but I know it now too: a Labrador is better at skateboarding than me. Example EVERYTHING: this Tony Hawk of adorable pooches!

In a viral TikTok posted by user Fabiandoe0, a Labrador is hanging out at a skate park when he decides to get into some gleaming the cube action (no, I don’t know if “gleaming the cube” makes sense here but that’s the only skate lingo I know!). The pooch picks up a skateboard with his mouth, carries it to the concrete, drops it, flips it over, and tries to take it on. The dog’s front paw ends up on the skateboard for approximately one millisecond, which is one millisecond longer than I’ve ever been able to stand on a skateboard. We’re going to need a doggy reboot of Avril Lavigne’s Sk8er Boi called Sk8er Dawg and this is the reason why:

I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before this Labrador becomes a skateboarding master. So in a few years, you can look fondly at this video like, “I knew him when,” when he takes the podium to accept his gold medal in skateboarding at the 2024 Olympics.
