Open Post: Hosted By Keanu Reeves Laughing At NFTs

Keanu Reeves continues to be the champion of all things good and delightful. The laid-back action star has been doing the rounds for the upcoming release of The Matrix Resurrections and recently sat down with co-star Carrie-Anne Moss and The Verge to promote the film. While discussing futuristic things, the subject of NFTs came up which elicited an interesting response from Keanu. SPOILER ALERT: he laughed at them because they are stupid.

If you’re not sure what an NFT (or non-fungible token) is, the BBC defines them as: “’one-of-a-kind’ assets in the digital world that can be bought and sold like any other piece of property, but which have no tangible form of their own.” Simple! Whatever you think they are, NFTs have received a lot of attention recently with loads of companies and actors (I see you, Lindsay Lohan!) getting in on the venture. It’s led to a bonanza of digital artwork being sold for crazy sums of actual money. Think of it like the dotcom bubble of the 90s, but with more ugly monkey art. Critics of NFTs say they’re bad for the environment and that you can just right-click and save a digital image for free. Have you ever saved a picture to your desktop? Then you, my friend, are a cutting-edge internet investor!

So what does Keanu think about these tokens?

Keanu’s goofy laugh is like a dagger to NFT guys’ hearts everywhere! The nerds will never recover. ONTD describes the incident:

Keanu also expressed his views about NFTs and called it a joke. In an interview with The Verge, Keanu said that NFTs are items that can’t be copied but can be easily reproduced. His comment on NFTs was in reference to the ability for people to right-click and save images. Although NFTs or non-fungible tokens are Digital property owned by people, they can well be reproduced. The user can either take a screenshot or right-click on the image to save it.

I think the focus shouldn’t just be on him though. Carrie-Anne Moss’ series of faces say more than a giggle ever will.

This is the face of a woman who isn’t sure if she made the right decision to have starred in The Matrix and forever be subjected to questions like these.
