Open Post: Hosted By The British Dating Series That Features Trap Doors

America has finally discovered the UK dating series The Love Trap, which premiered two weeks ago on Channel 4. The series sees a group of women competing for the love of 34-year-old Too Hot To Handle personal trainer, David Birtwistle. But the twist is, half the women are there for love and half are there for the money. Is any of that original for a reality dating series? No. But wait until the end of the episode, when David picks a woman to eliminate for being there for the money, and her ass gets dropped through a trap door like Bugs Bunny is trolling her.

The Sun says that after Love Trap aired its first episode, people took to social media to complain about how stupid the show is and is a copy of another British dating show called Ready To Mingle, which is the same premise except with a woman dating a bunch of men who may or may not be single. But what people did enjoy was watching women get dropped through a trap door at the end of the episode, even though some people thought it was staged. Something on a dating show being staged?! NEVER! But get into this foolery:

The presenter of the series, Joel Dommett, said that he’s “super proud” of it. via Metro UK:

“I love lying, love, and trap doors so it’s all I’ve ever wanted. It’s genuinely a huge idea and I’m excited that they have trusted me at the helm.”

I love this too, have to say. And don’t worry, that woman who was dropped is totally fine and she did have a man at home.

We need to incorporate trap doors into more reality television. When someone gets chopped on Chopped? Trap door. The Masked Singer reveals a person under the mask and then drops them into the abyss. When the house in Flip or Flop is a flop, the thing just drops into the Earth. Let’s raise the stakes!
