Steve Harvey Will Host A Court Show Soon Even Though He’s Not A Judge
The last thing we all need in our lives right now is another Judge show. But even more importantly than that, what we really don’t need is another Judge show starring ‘Captain-Lose-A-Show‘, Steve Harvey. Well lo and behold, it’s Christmas in August and we’re getting a steaming lump of coal in our stocking in the form of Steve Harvey’s upcoming Judge show, tentatively titled Judge Steve Harvey, which is set to premiere on ABC sometime next year.
Now before you ask, no, Steve did not spend his time during quarantine getting a law degree. But since he’s been judging people for years, I guess the only avenue left for him was to be the host of a judge show. At least, that’s what ABC feels. According to Variety, people will soon enter “Judge Steve Harvey’s” courtroom so he can settle their disputes:
With the working title “Judge Steve Harvey,” ABC has ordered 10 episodes of what it’s billing a “courtroom comedy series.” But the cases will be real: Harvey will welcome real-life people into his courtroom to rule on conflicts ranging from family disputes and sour friendships to actual small claims. “Steve plays by his own rules, basing his courtroom on his own life experiences and some good old common sense,” the network said.
No. If ABC wanted to bestow some good old-fashioned common sense on the world, they wouldn’t have ordered this show in the first place. I wouldn’t want Steve Harvey in the courtroom as the gavel, let alone the actual judge. However, this is about to go down. And ABC is currently looking for people who won’t mind being judged by a man who will probably laugh at their cases for about 20 minutes before forgetting he’s the one who’s supposed to be presiding over the case.
Casting is currently underway by MysticArt Pictures, which says on it’s looking “nationwide for roommates, friends, siblings, neighbors, co-workers and more that have humor, heart and passion who are ready to settle their case by a legendary celebrity.” As a perk, all awards and judgments will be paid by production, not by the defendant.
If anything, this show will fit in nicely with ABC’s other primetime offerings including Press Your Luck, $100,000 Pyramid and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, and Steve will fall right in line with ABC’s attempts at dusting off old things and making them new again. However, I can’t help but wonder how long it will take before Steve mixes up his shows and ends up delivering his verdicts by yelling “Survey says….GUILTY!” You know that’s going to happen more than once.
