Open Post: Hosted By The Beer That Saved A Wyoming Rancher’s Life

It’s about time the wondrous miracle that is alcohol gets a little credit after being blamed for the reason why creepy creeps act creepy. We just never imagined the actual form the tipsiness-inducing savior would take could be canned beer, but here we are.

The New York Post shares the harrowing tale of 53-year-old Wyoming rancher, Frank Reynolds, and the vehicle rollover accident that would have cost his life were it not for a cooler filled with Keystone Light.

A Wyoming rancher was pinned under an ATV for two days after a rollover crash — and survived the ordeal by drinking bottled water and beer.

Frank Reynolds, 53, was rounding up livestock on a neighbor’s pasture when his vehicle tipped over on top of him Sunday, dislocating his shoulder and breaking his ribs, according to the Gillette News Record.

“It was scary as hell is what it was,” Reynolds told the newspaper from his hospital bed Wednesday.

Frank’s location in a remote area outside Gillette, meant that no one was there to hear him honking the ATV’s horn until the battery died. He was able to reach some water and beer from his cooler in the vehicle, both of which kept him alive (but it was mostly the beer) until concerned friends formed a search party and managed to find him. The Post continues:

Neighbor Don Hamm reportedly discovered Reynolds Tuesday morning while combing the area on horseback.

By the time help arrived, Reynolds was “pretty much out of it,” he told the paper.

“Everything on the left side pretty much hurt, from the top of my head to my toes.”

Reynolds is expected to stay in the hospital a few more days and eventually recover, the article said.

It’s far too easy to assume, when hearing about an accident and injury on a ranch, that an out-of-control livestock animal is at fault and probably stomped on their exhausted human, who just wanted to go back inside the house and unwind with a cold beer while parked in front of an I Love Lucy marathon. We’ve got the beer part covered, and as Frank recuperates from his broken bones and bruising, hopefully, he won’t forget the bubbly BFF in a can that saved his life.
