Misneach, the goodest girl in Ireland! And yes, when it comes to Misneach, “goodest,” IS a word!
Over the weekend, the president of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins (who is giving me Roger Ebert in Albert Einstein drag), was giving a very serious press conference about the death of Irish actor Tom Hickey when one of his two Bernese mountain dogs, Misneach, didn’t get the memo that it was a sullen affair. Misneach should’ve shown up in a black lace mourning veil, but instead, she showed up in every dog’s usual mood: the “Bitch, pay attention to ME!” mood. And she stole the show while doing so.
As President Higgins honored Tom Hickey, Misneach wanted him to honor her with some ATTENTION. She bit at his hand and sniffed at his pocket, which made me wonder if he had O’Snausages (yes, that’s the Irish version of Snausages) in there. RTE correspondent, Sinéad Crowley, tweeted the adorable moment when Misneach tried to bite President Higgins’ hand into petting her:

That isn’t what was shown on RTE because I guess RTE doesn’t like ratings hitting the roof! Instead, they cropped the AWWW-ness out and only showed President Higgins from the waist up, so it looked like he was swatting away a low-flying bee until Misneach’s snout made an appearance:
TooFab says that Misneach was only adopted into the family in March after their beloved dog Sioda died in September. Their other dog, Bród, was probably off camera thinking, “Misneach, stop that shit or they’re going to think we’re as wild and loose as the Biden dogs!”
And while Misneach is definitely a spotlight-stealing star, I’m sure there were some people who didn’t even notice her trying to get some love from her human, because they were busy thinking, “Why the fuck is there a giant acorn back there?”
