Go To The Head Of The Class!

Unfortunately, Go To The Head Of The Class is not a board game based on the 80s and 90s sitcom masterpiece Head of the Class (if it was, you know I’d choose the Darlene game piece every single time). GTTHOTC was a board game where players were transported back into a classroom and had to answer smart student questions about math and science and shit. So yeah, when I played that game, the title became Go To Detention Because You’re A Damn Mess.

GTTHOTC was first made by Milton Bradley in the 1940s, and Wikipedia tells me that they continued to produce it until 2013 when they sold it off to another company. The game was perfect for those nerds who couldn’t get enough of school. The board game was a bird’s eye view of a classroom with the teacher’s blackboard being at one end. When it was a player’s turn, they had to answer a question about literature, science, art & music, math, or history. If they answered the question correctly, they moved forward toward the teacher’s blackboard. The player to get to the “head of the class”  won! Here’s a GTTHOTC commercial from 1986:

I know we’re supposed to want to answer those questions right and get to the head of the class, but that commercial makes me want the opposite. I mean, who doesn’t want to be that junior graduate of The Don’t Give A Fuck University who answers shit wrong like a smartass while wearing sunglasses in class?
