This is a Hot “Sluts” of the Day, because I’m not sure who is the worthiest HSOTD receipent here. Is it the husband who should really teach a class at Juilliard on how to bring the suspense by almost eating a cookie in a life insurance commercial? Is it the wife who suspiciously really, really wants life insurance? Or is it the cookie who keeps having to brace itself for a bite that never happens? It’s none of those options. It’s honestly all of ’em!
Reader Allison dropped this into my inbox because she has an eye for impeccable acting and suspense. It’s a commercial for life insurance company Colonial Penn, and in it, a husband keeps trying to take a bite out of a cookie, but then his wife lets him know that Rick croaked, and then he recognizes that “We need life insurance” sparkle in her eye, and then he stops to watch her call Colonial Penn to get that $9.95 a month plan. And then Jonathan from Colonial Penn comes up and does his salesman pitch while we all bite our fingernails off in anticipation over whether or not the husband got to eat that fucking cookie or not! SPOILER ALERT: We never find out!
“Does the husband eat the cookie?” is the “Who shot J.R.?” of our time.
For being a commercial about life insurance, there is a lot to it and I’ve got a lot of questions. Why was the wife being so adamant about life insurance? Why is the husband taking so long to eat that cookie? Is the cookie poisonious and he suspects it? Who is Rick? Was the wife having an affair with Rick and the husband found out and knocked Rick off and the wife knows this and is getting him back with a poisonious cookie but wants to make sure they get life insurance first so she’s set up forever? We need a sequel, Colonian Penn! But I’m still not going to buy that $9.95 life insurance plan.
