Alice Evans And Ioan Gruffudd Issued A Joint Statement About Their Break-Up

January 27, 2021 / Posted by:

Yesterday, British actor Alice Evans hopped on Twitter to announce that her “beloved husband/soulmate of 20 years,” Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd, had announced his imminent departure from their marriage “starting next week,” with no reason given other than he no longer loves her, leaving Alice and their “young daughters girls” sad and confused. That brings the total of people confused by this information to four, at minimum, because I had to hit up IMDB after a useless Google image search to find out who these people even are! The tweet has since been deleted (by Iaon, according to Alice) and the couple have issued a joint statement preemptively asking us to respect their privacy. Wait just a goddamn minute, you made me look you up and go deep down an Instagram rabbit hole and now you want privacy? Abso-fucking-lutely not!

According to People, Alice and Ioan met while working together on the 2000 film 102 Dalmatians. They got married in 2007 after Alice had issued Ioan an ultimatum after having been, per an interview with Ioan at the time, “very patient with my procrastinating with my male ways” (via Hello! And while we’re here, hello shades of Dominic West). Apparently, Alice plowed right past that red flag and this is the sad, and in hindsight, now slightly less confusing result.

Alice Evans says her husband, Fantastic Four (2005) star Ioan Gruffudd, has allegedly decided to leave her after 13 years of marriage.

Evans, who met Gruffudd on the set of their 2000 film 102 Dalmatians and married him in 2007, posted a since-deleted tweet on Tuesday (captured by Page Six and multiple outlets) that claimed her husband, 47, had told her and their two children the “sad news” that he was leaving their home.

“My beloved husband/soulmate of 20 years, Ioan Gruffudd, has announced he is to leave his family, starting next week,” Evans, 49, tweeted. “Me and our young daughters girls are very confused and sad.”

“We haven’t been given a reason except that he ‘no longer loves me.’ I’m so sorry,” she added.

Gruffudd has so far not commented on her tweets. In a joint statement obtained by PEOPLE, the two said, “As you can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time for our family and we remain committed to our children. Thank you for respecting our privacy.”

Ioan and Alice share two daughters aged 7 and 11, both conceived via IVF, a detail we know because Alice wrote about the experience herself for The Daily Mail (she’s also “close friends” with Piers Morgan‘s wife Celia Walden). You see, Alice is a big sharer. Ioan it seems, not so much. According to DM, Alice commented on Twitter that Ioan was the one who deleted her tweet announcing the split, along with accusations that she had been “gaslit and mentally tortured.

The original statement was later deleted, with Alice alleging that it was her estranged husband who had taken to her account and removed the message.

She posted another Twitter message, reading: ‘Hi there. I didn’t delete the tweet from a few hours ago about him leaving. He did. From my account…

‘And hell yes when I am being gaslit and mentally tortured then hell yes I will wash my linen in public’, however this tweet was also deleted later on.

Looks like somebody forgot to check for reply tweets because there are a couple that are still live on Alice’s Twitter. Amateurs!

So perhaps it wasn’t totally out of the blue. DM reports that Ioan “has spent three long spells,” in Australia filming the TV show Harrow and that when he returned from Brisbane at the end of the summer, “all seemed well” before ominously adding “—on the surface.” Dun Dun Dundee!

Evans posted a picture of the two of them cuddling up reunited in August with the fond caption: ‘He’s back and he’s grumpier than ever (shhh!).’

Speaking of grumpy, poor Alice might need to get her eyeglasses prescription checked because from looking at her Instagram (Ioan’s has been set to private, along with his Twitter), she missed a lot of writing on the wall. Her feed is resplendent with smiling, happy kid and puppy pictures. And almost every picture she’s posted of Ioan includes a caption that suggests he’d rather be anywhere else.

Girl, the last thing we need is a remake of He’s Just Not That Into You, stop giving people ideas!
