Open Post: Hosted By The Triumphant Return Of Taco Bell Potatoes

The Year That Shall Not Be Named will go down in history for a lot of grim happenings, so it’s easy to forget the culinary cruelties that took place in the greater pandemic shuffle. Taco Bell‘s well-paid management somehow kept their mouths shut and didn’t lead the public’s grief-stricken outcry at the punishing eviction of items featuring potatoes from their menu. It doesn’t make sense, because potatoes are the Kumbaya of the food world, and the one thing that joins both vegans and meat-eaters in joyful, carb-loaded, non-judgmental bliss. Potatoes are the peacekeepers we need in these dark days!

According to CNN:

Last year, Taco Bell cut a number of items from its menu, including two dishes that featured its seasoned potato bites: Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes and the Spicy Potato Soft Taco. Those two items will be back in restaurants on March 11, the chain announced on Thursday.

Rumors of potatoes getting axed started to swirl last summer after a Reddit user, identified as a verified employee, said potatoes were leaving the menu. Taco Bell soon confirmed the news, leading to a stream of dismay online.

“Taco bell getting rid of potatoes is worse than my parents divorce,” one person tweeted in July. “I don’t think I can forgive Taco Bell for taking potatoes off their menu,” wrote another. People posted cry-face emojis, and heartbreak emojis. A Change.org “petition for Taco Bell to NOT remove all potato items,” among other items, garnered over 5,000 signatures.

Taco Bell isn’t just bringing back their beloved spuds to soothe the forlorn emoji-posters among their customers. According to Business Insider, they’re also jumping into the hotly competitive fried-chicken game:

Taco Bell’s global chief food innovation officer Liz Matthews told Insider that customers can expect to see significant menu innovation from the chain when it comes to chicken in 2021.

“I love watching the competitors,” Matthews said in a recent interview. “I think a lot of players out there are doing a great job, but what I will say is that we will interrupt that with what we’re going to do on chicken.”

And here is Taco Bell’s spiffy spokespotato to bring us the cloud-abating news as we all wonder, “Am I high or is the person who came up with a talking Taco Bell potato high?
