The Cast Of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 13 Has Been Announced

2021 will probably be just as shit as 2020, but let’s delude ourselves for one hot second, shall we? On New Year’s Day, a new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race will premiere! Which means we’re in for a fabulous 2021! New year, new you, new queens!  Today, Vh1 released the first look, which is all about spreading positivity, truth, and oil and gas drilling, err, LOVE across the world, courtesy of RuPaul and the thirteen Season 13 contestants.

Here’s the first look at the queens:

This season will feature the first-ever trans male contestant, Los Angeles’ Gottmik. Gottmik uses he/him pronouns out of drag and she/her in drag and also works as a celebrity makeup artist. He is the first openly trans contestant since Peppermint in Season 9. Hmm, I guess RuPaul caught wind that his dinosaur transphobic casting rules are more J.K. Rowling’s T.E.R.F. (pun on turf, get it?).

Other contestants include:

Denali (Chicago): the very first queen originally from Alaska. She’s a professional competitive figure skater and has a third-degree black belt in martial arts. Denali incorporates ice skating and acrobats into her drag.

Elliott with 2 Ts (Las Vegas): known for her 80s aesthetic and dance skills who describes herself as “a high-end housewife meets Jennifer Lopez”. OK, sure!

Joey Jay (Phoenix): a Jewish dancing queen who calls herself the “lipstick lesbian of Phoenix”. Joey says she’s more masculine in drag and doesn’t care if you clock her for not wearing wigs.

Kahmora Hall (Chicago): drag sister to Season 12 winner Jaida Essence Hall and drag momma to Season 11’s Soju. She refers to herself as a high-maintenance, glitz n’ glam diva, whose lip-sync style is more “park and bark bitch” and less “kicks and flips and splits.”

Kandy Muse (New York City): one of Aja’s daughters. This “loud bitch” who’s go-to drag is “ho” (all her own words) won Brooklyn Drag Queen of the Year. She’s also big on the social medias.

LaLa Ri (Atlanta): only in her third year of doing drag, this Atlanta queen loves to wear leotards, bright colors, and show off her dance skills and body. She says she is “not the sewing kind of girl”, so send good vibes to Lala and hope to God the first ep isn’t a design challenge (it so will be).

Olivia Lux (New York City): originally from Jersey, this “baby queen” named herself after Olivia Pope from Scandal. She wants to show off her musical theatre and piano skills, so hopefully, production added a grand piano to the mainstage this year.

Rosé (New York): considers herself a campy showgirl type, worships at the altar of divas such as Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion. She’s also part of a girl group with Season 12’s Jan.

Symone (Los Angeles): the queen with the fabulous hair artistry in the above picture, Symone is the very first contestant originally from Arkansas. She’s influenced by strong, powerful Black women like Tina Turner, Diana Ross, and Rihanna.

Tamisha Iman (Atlanta): this “seasoned queen” built an Atlanta drag dynasty. Tamisha also constructs everything she wears on the runway and has been performing for thirty damn years!

Tina Burner (New York City): this legendary NYC comedy queen has auditioned a whole bunch of times. A self-described “monster” who looks like “a linebacker in a dress”. Again, she’s referred to as “seasoned” (code for… not 21 anymore).

Utica Queen (Minneapolis): from a very small farm town in Minnesota. This Seventh Day Adventist loves fashion, design, painting, and architecture. She self-identifies as a “wacky, wavy inflatable arm-tube queen.”, and says she’s totally there to make friends. Or find a husband.

Earlier today VH1 dropped a full-sized video introducing all the queens:

The season was shot in late summer under full COVID-19 protocols. In a statement, RuPaul said, “Competing safely and fiercely, our 13 queens proved that it takes more than a global pandemic to keep a good queen down.” Yeah, it’ll take the Earth literally exploding from pollution and climate change to stop these Season 13 girls! Which, by coincidence, is exactly what RuPaul is contributing to through fracking. Yaaas Queen! Get that money, honey!
