Libbey Country Geese Glasses!
Growing up, we never had a complete set of glasses. Our drinking glasses were made up of cups my mom had forever, cups with corporate labels that she got from work, yogurt containers that my abuelita refused to throw away and washed, and a couple of glasses from McDonald’s that I begged for. But several the moms of several of my friends had a glorious collection of Libbey country geese drinking glasses. In the late-80s, Libbey country geese ANYTHING was like upper-class suburban sophistication to me.
Libbey, which makes glasses and dishes, had a line of glasses, dishes, and cookware that were decorated with country geese. They slapped that fancy bow-wearing goose on everything from ceramic cookie jars to glass pitchers to eatin’ utensils to plates to carafes to much more. They even had a country Christmas goose version. Some people got the whole collection. One of my friends’ kitchens looked like the inside of Libbey’s asshole. It was country geese everything! If a trigger happy hunter got in that kitchen, bitch would shoot the whole thing up.
Libbey is still around today but they sent the country goose off to retirement. They actually filed for bankruptcy in June because the pandemic messed with their money. But they rose up after restructuring and their CEO says that Libbey will live on!

So many words and none of those words were: “And we’re bringing back the country geese!” I mean, they would’ve broken the stock market if they said that!
