This exquisite sculpture restoration in the Spanish city of Palencia!
This work of stunningly magnificent art was supposed to be yesterday’s HSOTD but then the work of stunningly magnificent journalistic art, Leta Powell Drake, came along. Besides, this is a perfect HSOTD for Friday the 13th since it made some people want to splash holy water at their screens.
The Associated Press says that the world’s eyes were graced by the sight of the cooing rutabaga sculpture after a local named Antonio Capel posted it to his Facebook account. That mess decorates an office building near Antonio’s home and he couldn’t believe that they took that shit from “happy peasant girl” to “melting Mr. Potato Head wondering if anyone smells the sneaky fart he just let out.” Antonio told AP that the botched job was actually done years ago after a new tenant moved in and decided that what the building really needed was a sculpture of Alice the Goon after getting hit in the face with a frying pan.
“I was surprised. How could they have done this?” Capel told The Associated Press on Wednesday. “This must be at least 10-years-old, and we’re only finding out now.”
He said the 20th-century building belongs to a bank but tenants decided to fix the façade some years ago.
A rep for Palencia City Hall refused to tell AP who did this gorgeous restoration and probably because they don’t want the artiste to get flooded with restoration requests. But of course, everyone wondered if restoration high priestess Cecelia Jiminez worked her magic again after proving she’s the Michelangelo of our time by turning a painting of Jesus Christ into a painting of a sock monkey that got mangled in the wash.
And even though that restoration was done years ago, it’s perfect commentary on 2020. Because on the left is how all of us started our 2020 and on the right is how we’re ending it.
