Blake Shelton And Gwen Stefani Won Their First Joint CMT Award
Gwen Stefani has been doing the yee-haw thing for a while now (dating humanoid rodeo belt buckle Blake Shelton officially qualifies you as doing the yee-haw thing). Which would be confusing enough if you told it to a time traveler who just arrived in the present day from the L.A.M.B. era. But Gwen is really doing the yee-haw thing now. Because you may now address her as Country Music Television Award Winner Gwen Stefani.
Gwen and her boyfriend of five years Blake were nominated for Collaborative Video of the Year, for their song, “Nobody But You.” Gwen and Blake have recorded tons of stuff together over the years, but this was the first time a song they did was nominated for a big serious award (I’m sorry Teen Choice Awards, that was disrespectful of me). They won in their category, beating out fellow nominees that included Carly Pearce and Lee Brice, Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber, Kane Brown and Nelly, Kane Brown and Marshmello, and Thomas Rhett and Jon Pardi.

Gwen was clearly very surprised that she won a country music award. Although she was dressed appropriately to accept such an honor. A turquoise camo-print bustier paired with the kind of acrylic nails that look like they should be clutching the silver faux-leather handles of a purse bought at a Cracker Barrel is entirely on-point. Blake was less surprised. Blake is an 18-time CMT nominee and now 9-time winner, so you’d fully expect him to be whatever the backwoods country boy version of “meh” is. But he was happy about his win, because – according to him – fan-voted awards are the only ones that count. He also hopped on Twitter to stress that it was a special one because he shared it with his lady. Gwen thanked him for exposing her to country music:
@blakeshelton i love u so much – i've learned so much from u – thank u for sharing country music w me!! gx https://t.co/Q3DUt3uVmf

As for the video that won Gwen and Blake their joint CMT Award, here it is. I can smell the reclaimed barn board and Skoal from here.
Here are the rest of the winners. Carrie Underwood, the woman who keeps the lights on at CMT, surprised absolutely no one by taking home two awards. The rest of the names below might be completely foreign to you unless you listen to country music. And if you do, then shoot me an email so we can talk about how Blanco Brown was absolutely robbed. Not a single award for “The Git Up“? Voting was obviously rigged.
