Jared Leto is hardcore. He’s an alt/goth/punk-rocker/cult-leading/Academy Award-winner and he definitely lives the extreme life of someone with so many slashes and hyphens to their credit. A few years back, Jared went rock climbing with Alex Honnold, the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary Free Solo, and almost died doing it. Just because you’re going climbing with someone who’s so talented and amazing they get an Oscar movie made about them doesn’t mean that you guaranteed won’t die. But Jared Leto pushed those limits and nearly plummeted. Well time for visual proof of the rope which almost took out alt/goth/punk-rocker/cult-leading/Academy Award-winner Jared Leto.
While climbing at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Las Vegas, 48-year-old Jared Leto’s safety rope, which held him to the side of a mountain and kept his whole life intact, started to fray. He explained on Twitter:
“Not to sound dramatic, but this is the day I nearly died.”
Dangling 600 feet above the ground, Jared wrote that he found near death “melancholy“. You know, it is possible for someone to be be too chill (via People):
“I remember looking down at the ground below. It was a strange moment–less fear, more matter of fact, and slightly melancholy… The adrenaline came after, when I got back on the wall. But we made it through and lived to see another day… Overall it was actually quite fun.”
In 2018 he talked about this on Live With Kelly and Ryan, saying pretty much the same zen insanity:
“It’s not such a bad way to go out, as Alex says: it’ll be the scariest three seconds of his life and then it’s all over… I think it’s part of what makes me feel alive and I absolutely love it. It’s a huge part of my life.”
In the video of the actual incident, which he posted, Jared does sound more like a normal human person reacting to almost dying and not a rich spiritual dude who’s apparently emotionally-prepared to fall to his death at any given moment:
“Holy fucking shit… …Holy fuck!–It was fraying right at the point!”

Well, the good news for Jared Leto is that if he did fall, he could make sure he lands crotch-first, and his Praetorian Guard’s helmet dick would protect him. I mean, sure the ground would be destroyed, but Jared would be fine.
