Open Post: Hosted By A Freezing Pussy Atop A Hydro Pole
You’ve heard of cats getting stuck up trees, only to be rescued by bulky, shirtless firemen? Well, if the same thing happens in the winter, and instead of a tree it’s a massive hydro pole holding a bunch of live wires in place, things take a more dramatic (and slightly less sexy) turn.
Last Friday, residents in Toronto happened to notice that a frightened, snow-covered puss had somehow managed to climb up to the top of a hydro pole…and proceeded to stay up there for hours. That day, temperatures dipped well below freezing and winds were particularly gnarly, so had it not been for some eagle-eyed viewers, the sassy black and white tabby might have been a goner.
Fortunately, this lucky kitty had managed to attract a bunch of loyal followers who wouldn’t leave his side and even documented his entire harrowing journey: from the first sounds of frantic meowing until hydro personnel showed up and safely snatched him back to safety.

After being rushed indoors to a buffet of smoked salmon and belly rubs, HydroCat was taken to the local animal shelter where he was checked out and given a clean bill of health.
“If you’re missing your adventurous cat, we’ve got him — he’s safe, warm and eating our treats,” Toronto Animal Services tweeted. “Come get Hydro Cat if he’s yours.”
The amazing crew from @TorontoHydro got him down, and our Officers Amanda and Tonya brought him to safety and warmth. Our friend is about a year old, not neutered and not chipped. He’s in good condition, but rather thin and understandably nervous. pic.twitter.com/WiHnLVtdhy
