The Flipflash!

Sure, nowadays the flash is built into our iPhones and it’s bright and strong that it could light the leg of a crab clinging to our pube as we take a dick pic for our Grindr tricks in the dark. But that iPhone flash could never take down the Flipflash in the glamour department, because the Flipflash was like opulent jewelry for your camera!

In the 1960s, Kodak put out the Flashcube, which was a cube that you stuck on your camera, and every time you used a flash, you turned the cube around to use another flash (since the flash bulb’s lifespan was only one use). In the 1970s, General Electric copied Kodak but put their own spin on the flash cube by making the Flipflash, a technologically advanced bar of eight to ten flashes that allowed a photographer to bust out some non-stop FLASH! CLICK! CLICK! FLASH! action. via Peta Pixel:

The first non-Kodak solution was the General Electric Flipflash, which arranged eight to ten flashbulbs in two rows. A photographer could plug in the cartridge, fire four to five shots, then flip the unit over to access the other four to five bulbs. Other companies including Phillips, Polaroid, and Sylvania also released their own versions of the Flipflash while carefully navigating around General Electric’s product patents.

This is what it looked like on top of a camera:

PURE GLAMOUR!

The thing about the Flipflash is that after you used them up, you could lay them down to create a big, disco stage for your Barbie to dance on. Can the stupid iPhone flash do that?!
