The Koala Savior!

It’s bushfire season in Australia, and so far the fires have claimed the lives of hundreds of koalas and at least six humans. But one koala was saved in New South Wales after a legendary hero risked becoming a shrimp on the barbie by going into the heat to rescue him and give them the shirt off her back, literally.

CBS News says that the savior’s name is Toni Doherty. Toni noticed that a koala was burned up and down and out in a bad way. And when the koala, who was probably dazed and confused (and not in a Wooderson way), went back into the flames and caught fire, Toni took off her shirt, and went right after him. The koala was trying to keep safe on a tree when Toni grabbed him with her shirt, pulled him off, and carefully made her way back to safety. And she was wearing sandals while doing so. When they got back to a safer area, Toni tried to cool the koala off with water before she and the man she was with drove the furry patient to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital for treatment.

This video is equals parts heartwarming and heartbreaking. It’s heartwarming because DUH. But it’s heartbreaking because those demons flames fucked that koala up and he’s yelping.

As for how the koala’s doing, he’s still got a long way to go, because the fires burned up his feet, hands, nose, and his down-low parts. The hospital has named him Lewis, and say he’s very old. But even though Lewis is pretty messed up, he’s alive and eating. Hero Toni reunited with Lewis in the hospital:

The rescue video and the reunion video is seriously my favorite superhero movie, buddy movie, and tearjerker rolled up all into one and covered with a thick layer of crushed Prozac.
