Meg Ryan Has Reportedly Called Off Her Engagement To John Mellencamp

On Sunday, Meg Ryan showed up to the Governors Awards with a big gold and diamond-studded ring on her left hand, but it wasn’t on her ring finger. Which it should be, considering the last time we all checked, she was engaged to John Mellencamp.

Meg made sure everyone got a good, clear shot of her ringless ring finger, and it was almost as though she was trying to tell everyone to go ahead and draw their own conclusions. Well, we don’t have to do that, because a source tattled to Us Weekly that Meg’s engagement is over.

Meg and John got engaged last November after dating on-and-off for eight years. But it looks like she’s no longer sucking on his chili dog outside the Tastee Freez, because a source claims they’re done.

“She’d had enough and ended [their engagement],” a source reveals. “She has no regrets.”

Had enough of what, exactly? People making bad John Mellencamp lyric jokes about sucking on his chili dog? Because I can see how that would get annoying after a while.

If 57-year-old Meg and 68-year-old John had gone through with their marriage, it would have been Meg’s second (she was married to Dennis Quaid for ten years) and John’s fourth.

Back in February, Meg gave an interview to The New York Times Magazine, and her engagement was still very much on. Things only started getting iffy earlier this month, after Radar Online reported that Meg and John had allegedly called it quits. A source claimed that John didn’t want to commit to Meg, and Meg was so over it. However, a spokesperson for John quickly called up Gossip Cop and quickly shot down that rumor. But here we are, stuck in the middle of No Ring Township.

I just wonder what Meg will do next. Will she take some time to herself? Will she follow in her ex-husband’s footsteps and hook up with someone way, waaaaay younger than her? If she does, then I will very much look forward to one day writing the joke: “John Mellencamp might be out of her life, but it looks like there’s still a little cougar in her.” Oh god, I’m sorry Meg – you don’t deserve it!
