Open Post: Hosted By The Joker Stairs

October 22, 2019 / Posted by:

The influencers are at it again! Fans of Joaquin Phoenix‘s unhinged noodle dancing are flocking to the Bronx staircase that is featured prominently on the movie poster for Joker. In the movie, Arthur Fleck finally embraces his inner Joker, who in turn finally embraces his inner college dude wearing a drug rug at a Phish concert, and struts his stuff down a flight of stairs that are located in the Highbridge section of the Bronx. If you’ve ever been to the Bronx or know a Bronx native, you’ll understand why they aren’t thrilled. It’s fair to say that most Bronx natives don’t have inner Phish Phans yearning to be free. #Thefuck?

According to The New York Post, Instagram has been inundated with posts by influencers and tourists who are using the hashtag #JokerStairs:

The newest hot filming location-turned-tourist-destination is in Highbridge, The Bronx — the gritty stairway featured in the DC blockbuster “Joker.”

The steps Joaquin Phoenix menacingly dances down are attracting hordes of fans looking for their own creepy clown moment. There are over 600 posts on Instagram with the #Jokerstairs. The steps, which join Shakespeare and Anderson Avenues and run along West 167 Street, are officially called “Joker Stairs” and listed at 1165 Shakespeare Ave. in the photo sharing app.

And guess what, they all look absolutely ridiculous.

Here’s what they look like in real life.

Plenty of locals on Twitter have been jokering (yes I did, so what?) about robbing unsuspecting tourists and influencers.

But that really hasn’t happened.

And in true Bronx fashion, despite the disruption and annoyance, plenty see the Joker stairs becoming a thing, as a benefit!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to find the alley where Renee Zellweger smokes cigarettes and cries in Judy! #Judyalley
