Taylor Swift Cancelled Her Performance At Australia’s Melbourne Cup

The increasingly brightly-hued Taylor Swift will no longer perform at Australia’s Melbourne Cup horse racing event. She pulled out after horsie rights protesters and her more equine-minded fans gave her a ration of shit over it due to the Cup allegedly being a race towards euthanization for an unsettling number of horses over the years.

Rolling Stone reports that the protests aren’t being cited as the official cause of Taylor’s cancellation. They’re blaming it on Taylor’s busy slathering pastels over the world schedule. Blame Asia!

However, the Victoria Racing Club announced Saturday that “a recent change to Taylor Swift’s Asian promotional tour means she will no longer be able to perform at this year’s Melbourne Cup.”

PETA joined an organization called The Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses in asking Taylor to pull out. The CPR were overjoyed when she did and Facebooked about their victory.

“THANK YOU TAYLOR! We are absolutely delighted with the news,” they wrote on Facebook. “The pressure on Taylor Swift to cancel her performance was significant. Her fans did not want to see her supporting animal abuse. Whilst the reason being used by the racing industry is a scheduling mix up, it appears to us that she has responded to those calls.”

And in case Tay Tay’s new bestie Katy Perry gets any ideas about picking up her sloppy performing seconds, she can think again. The CPR is “keeping a close eye out for whether another artist is announced to perform at the day” and will presumably go after them, too.

PETA expressed their approval to Rolling Stone over Taylor’s decision, as well.

“Taylor Swift dumped the Melbourne Cup, and PETA couldn’t be happier,” PETA Press Outreach Manager Moira Colley said in a statement to Rolling Stone. “The event is riddled with horse breakdowns and death and is linked to the bloody horse-slaughter industry, which PETA most recently exposed in South Korea. None of this cruelty is consistent with the kind person we know Taylor to be.”

Well, if the Melbourne Cup really wants someone who can sing a Taylor Swift song. They can always ask her other arch rival Kellyanne Conway who has already auditioned for the gig. Although, that would not only be cruel to animals, it’d be cruel to humanity too.
