It must really be true love too, because I don’t think I’ve ever seen Anna Wintour look so positively thrilled. The last time she smiled that hard, she was probably firing the intern who refilled her desk cup with 23 unsharpened pencils instead of the requested 22.
Anna’s confession about flip-flops was made during the most recent video in Vogue’s Go Ask Anna series, in which normal people ask Anna questions about fashion and style. At the 3:28 mark in the video below, a woman asks Anna: “How do you feel about flip-flops outside of the nail salon?“. My gut instinct told me that Anna was going to respond to that question by gagging at the idea of having her recently pedicured feet touch anything other than the hand-knotted organic Mulberry silk bathmat. Instead, Anna shocked the world by answering simply:
“I love a flip-flop.”
Somewhere in Calabasas, Kanye West heard the news that his favorite fashion enabler Anna Wintour just declared she loves a flip-flop, and he’s begun working on the Yeezy version of the classic rainbow flip-flop. Except it’s Yeezy, which means the rainbow will be beige, light beige, beige-gray, beige-khaki, light brown, and it will cost $1000.
Anna says she loves a flip-flop, not all flip-flops, and that’s important. I doubt you’ll find a pair of filthy-soled Havaianas in the back of her closet. It sounds like she loves one specific pair of flip-flops. And since it’s Anna Wintour, it’s probably a $795 Gucci flipflop. And even then, I still doubt Anna Wintour would be caught dead in the people’s sandal. She probably means she loves a flip-flop, as in the single $795 Gucci flip-flop she owns solely to slap at mosquitos on the nights someone tricks her into eating outside on a patio like a hillbilly.
