Linda Perry Talks Prince Tribute, Calls Sheila E Irrelevant

It’s still dark times in the aftermath of the world losing its purple angel, Prince. In the words of Burt Bacharach, what the world needs now, is love. What the world doesn’t need is people slinging hateful words at the gems we have left! Prince’s long legacy gave us some of the most precious jewels of glamour, elegance and musical talent. One went up home earlier this year, before Prince, Vanity. But we’ve still got some left. Like Sheila E. Sheila can knock the hell out of the drums and can sing like no one’s business. But that’s not enough for some hateful hos. In this case, we’re talking about Linda Perry. Don’t mess with the Prince family, Linda. Just don’t.

Linda was on The Talk yesterday and the conversation turned towards the Prince tribute that is to take place at the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday. Billboard has chosen the Queen of the Dark Side, Madonna, as the artist who will perform a tribute to the Purple One. A lot of people are not happy about it. In fact, there’s a petition with 5,000 signatures in protest of Madonna’s sure to be thirsty show. Linda threw in her two hateful cents and said:

In all fairness, Madonna was asked to do this and she was friends with Prince but you also have to think about it’s really the Billboard Awards, they think about who is hot and popular,” she argued. “They’re not gonna call up Chaka Khan and re-put together The Time and Sheila E. because they’re not relevant right now.

Thank god it was a Friday and not a Sunday because such unholy words would surely cause some sort of biblical plague or catastrophe to happen had they been heathenly uttered on the Holy Day. Chaka Khan not relevant? Sheila E not relevant?! Linda has written huge hits, like one of my all time favorites, ‘What You Waiting For?‘ by Gwen Stefani, and 4 Non Blondes will always be in the “YES” category, but she should watch it. Funky hats and questionable tattoos do not relevance make.

As expected, Sheila was not happy and she took to her Facebook to let Linda know how she feels, via People. Sheila posted the below video and this is some classy shit:

It’s rare these days for someone to not get petty and go to name calling, but this is Sheila, an acolyte of Prince’s, so we know she’s going to keep it 100% dignified. She also posted the below picture to her Facebook for the humor touché final touch:

Linda went on to defend her opinion by saying:

The Billboards are about what is gonna sell their show. Right now, Madonna being up there this is selling the show. If the show was honestly creative and thought bigger, they could’ve had an amazing show with The Time and Sheila E., Chaka Khan, Lenny Kravitz.

True as that may be, we don’t need Linda to drag Sheila and Chaka. She should drag Billboard for choosing Madonna so we don’t get another Lady Gaga doing a bad Bowie impression Grammys disaster. Since Linda is highly relevant and powerful, she should call in all her favors, join forces with Sheila, Chaka and the rest of the family, get them up on stage, find whoever did that Whitney Houston hologram, then hire the opposite person to do a great Vanity hologram that isn’t creepy (but is there such thing as a non-creepy hologram?). Now that would be a tribute worthy of Prince!
