I just printed out this story from The New Orleans Advocate and wrote with a Sharpie in big letters “My Last Will And Testiclemint: THIS Is How I Want To Go.” Mickey Easterling did it right down to the champagne glass full of the sweet nectar and that truly elegant BITCH broach. Mickey Easterling died on April 14 after a long illness and her final wish was for her funeral to be a glamour and jazz-filled party celebrating her life. Mickey’s friend of 30 years slathered her in glamour by dressing her in a floral ensemble, a hot pink boa, a church hat and that extremely exquisite diamond BITCH broach. The Waterford crystal champagne flute is the one that Mickey used to carry around in her purse, because some restaurants didn’t have the proper glassware for her Veuve. THIS is a legend:

Mickey’s last party was held at the Saenger Theater, which her ex-husband used to own a part of back in the day. As jazz music played, waiters passed around trays of fried eggplant and Mickey’s guests toasted to her. Mickey’s daughter Nanci Myke said that it wasn’t your typical funeral, obviously, and there was no program or anything close to that.

“There’s no program,” she said, “It’s really more of a …” She paused and searched for the words, then continued, “It’s a really nice way to say, ‘The party’s over.’ ”

Mickey was fabulous in life and fabulous in death.

Rest in peace, Mickey. You are now sipping champagne with the angels and laughing as their eyes fill with jealousy over your hot diamond BITCH broach.
