51-year-old fashion designer and curator of all things refined Tom Ford and his 60-something partner Richard Buckley announced today that they are fathers to a newborn baby boy they named Alexander John Buckley Ford. Vogue.com says that Alexander John Buckley Ford was born on September 23rd in Los Angeles. It's fitting that Tom and Richard's baby has the full name of a gun-slinging old timey bandit who once robbed a Wells Fargo stagecoach of all their coins, because this baby will forever be rolling around in gold and luxury.
Baby AJ will never know what it's like to get a rash on his nalgas from sleeping on an egg crate covered with a 150 grit bed sheet from Ikea. Baby AJ will never have to cross his fingers when he tries to get $20 out of the ATM by depositing a $40 check he wrote to himself.

as for richard and tom, i think thats called money. tom met richard when tom was 25 years old, and richard was EDITOR OF VOGUE Homme (MY BIBLE). tom knew richard knew people, so he hopped on that dick train and he got richard hooked like a fisherman catching atlantic salmon.
Tom was a nobody and Richard introduced to Gucci, got him a job, made him who is he today.

within the age bracket is not the issue for me, its the fact they are having a child AT this LATE stage of life.
how is a 64 and 51 year old going to look after a baby-turn-toddler-turn-child-teen-young adult. and this applies to gay or straight parents.
in five years time when the child wants to go to the park and run around like all children do, richard will be almost 70 and i doubt he will be able to chase around the child.
in 10 years time, when the kid is 10 years old and wants to play baseball and soccer, richard will be a pepaw 74 year old and tom will 62, how they gonna do that? thats just ONE aspect of the reality of kids growing up.
or if the kid is part of a swim squad, are they gonna get their old nut sacks up 4am every morning to drive him/her to the pool for training? DOUBT IT.
i think parenting is about spending time and being there for your son/daughter, not having butlers and Filipino nannies do all the work.
and these two having baby at this LATE stage of their life is selfish. why didnt they do it sooner when they were in their 30s?

alot of ladies i know think he is handsome and bonkable, but i think he is just an okay designer who is more hype than anything.
anybody can design a suit to make a man look handsome, and that anyone is called a tailor.
with the right fabric, a talented tailor, and a good haircut, any guy could look a million bucks. and doesnt have to spend $3,500 for a tom ford stitched label.

That's actually a really cool article about Buckley and Ford and how they met.
Fronika, he may or may not have to make medical and lifestyle decisions for his parents someday. He will have the financial means to make those decisions if he has to and that's a hell of a lot more than most can say.
I work in geriatrics and it's hard on every age bracket to take care of a parent. Their lives don't stop though, they keep going and live their lives the best they can. It doesn't have to be a big dramatic life ruining experience. :)

Bizarrelife, you're welcome. It almost made me cry too. It's such a sweet story about two people who seemed destined to be together. I'm a sucker for that shit. What I love is after 20+ years together you can still hear (read?) the feelings they were going through when they first hooked up. And I loved how Tom stood up for his man when people were being mean to him as you said. They are a beautiful couple in the ways that truly matter, even though you can see that Richard must have been handsome and Tom, well, Tom is Tom. No need to say anything other than that.

Amen to that. My boyfriend often blabs on and on about kids. I always tell him to slow down - we are not even married yet. He thinks having a kid is like some Hallmark commercial...all roses. Uggh. I ask him these questions: 1) Who will take the kid to the doc?; 2) Who will come running to daycare when said kid needs something; 3) Who will do events/carpool/etc. etc. etc....
He seems to think I am just going to jump in. HELL NO. You will do at least 50% of that work or I say "Nyet" on the kids.
Luckily, Tom and Dick will have their parents and grandparents around to babysit and so on.

Thanks so much for posting that wonderful story on these two gentlemen. It might seem a little silly, but their story really made me cry. They seems so happy together. I really like stories like this, because it restores my often cynical view of humanity.
I seriously hope that Tom Ford's partner is not sick again. It seems like they both suffered through a lot of loss, and I would hate for that to be a factor. I was disappointed to hear that some of their friends just assumed Richard had AIDS - just because of the throat cancer. If people would actually read a damn book, or even some articles, they would know that that is not always synonymous with AIDS. Uggh. Even if he DID have AIDS, they would not catch it by just spending time with him. Idiots!

I have known people whose parents were in their 40s when they were born and all they remember is that their parents were old people.
