Wendi McLendon-Covey Defends How “The Goldbergs” Handled Jeff Garlin’s Exit

Back in December it was announced that Jeff Garlin got fired from his role as the patriarch on the ABC comedy, The Goldbergs, following an HR investigation. Jeff told Vanity Fair that he hadn’t been canned, and the issues had to do with the fact that he was “silly,” a “hugger,” and the real story was about “political correctness.” But anonymous sources told Deadline that Jeff was fired because he was “extremely verbally and emotionally abusive.” They shared stories about Jeff screaming at a female stand-in, making dirty jokes, giving female crew members inappropriate nicknames, and putting his hands around a female (shocking) camera assistant, and repeating the word “vagina” into her face.
