Open Post: Hosted By Aglio Kim, The Robot Restaurant Server in South Korea
Introducing Aglio Kim, the hot new A.I. server straight outta South Korea. Aglio Kim was developed by telecoms company KT Corp in an attempt to help ensure social distancing and minimize human contact during the pandemic. She’s currently being tested at Seoul’s “Mad for Garlic” Italian restaurant. The manager, Lee Young-ho, says “Customers found the robot serving quite unique and interesting, and also felt safe from the coronavirus.”
Here’s how it works: customers order through touch-screens at their tables. Once their food is prepared by humans, the kitchen staff places the finished orders on Aglio Kim’s racks. Then they punch in the table destination on her screen face, and the dutiful four-foot-tall A.I. delivers the food. Aglio Kim can handle up to four orders or 66 pounds at one time, which is far more impressive than any human forearm balancing act. She can also speak both English and Korean because she’s a cultured bitch.
Here’s another robot proving that the robot takeover is near:
굿바이, 인간 웨이터. 코로나19/사회적 거리두기 시대에 KT가 5G와 AI를 사용해 개발한 로봇 웨이터 ‘알리오 김’, 서울의 한 식당에서 손님들 시중 들어. 이 로봇, 스크린과 스피커 장착하고 한국어와 영어를 말할 수 있고 한번에 4 테이블까지 음식을 배달할 수 있어. pic.twitter.com/fzrDSE0dSJ

Aglio Kim sounds like the perfect server for those with social anxiety. Or people who are so high they can’t even figure out how to ask for a glass of water. She doesn’t judge. She just serves with a smile and a wink.
KT Corp says they’re planning on providing more robot servers for other restaurants this year, and they’re also developing a second model with A.I. voice recognition technology. Does this mean when Karens demand to speak to Aglio Kim’s manager after she gets their order wrong, the robot can cry real human tears? “Please, ma’am, I’m a single mother trying her best!”
