Open Post: Hosted By “Jeopardy!” Contestants Committing A Sin By Messing Up A Betty White Clue

Jeopardy! is filled to the brim with smart people who casually know what the 16th AND 44th digits of pi are. The only version I can compete on is the kid edition, and even then, just barely. But if there’s one Achilles heel that these brainiacs all share, it’s their lack of pop culture knowledge. This was particularly evident in a recent episode where not one, not two, but THREE of the contestants had no clue who Betty White was. I guess watching rerun after rerun of The Golden Girls at your grandma’s house is no longer a rite of passage!
Uproxx says that the crime against Betty happened when host Mayim Bialik asked the contestants who played Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls. While thousands of viewers shouted, “BETTY WHITE!” in unison at the TV screen, the contestants scratched their heads in confusion. One contestant guessed Rue McClanahan, and another guessed Bea Arthur.

That clue was definitely put in there as a gimme. I’ll give them credit for knowing who Bea Arthur and Rue McClanahan were, but Betty did not live almost 100 years to be shamed like this! Ultimately, Mayim had to put an end to the embarrassment. Some viewers were unimpressed.
Honestly, not knowing Rose on the Golden Girls was played by BETTY WHITE is inexcusable. #Jeopardy

I don't care what generation these contestants are from … not knowing Betty White played Rose on The Golden Girls is a crime against trivia. #Jeopardy

There’s only one solution to quell the outrage and properly educate the people. A nationwide marathon of The Golden Girls all summer. It’s what Betty deserves!
