Emma Watson Explains Why She Took A Break From Acting

Back in 2018, Emma Watson broke up with her acting career after falling out of love with the profession she’s been a part of since she was a wee wizard in Harry Potteradding her to the growing list of stars who decided to explore new territories outside of acting and transition to civilian-hood. Her last role was in 2019’s Little Women, and she really didn’t do press for it, so what happened?! Besides, Emma Watson’s American accent getting dragged across the internet.

So as it turns out, Emma didn’t leave the game cause she doesn’t like acting but left because she hated acting as if she actually liked the movies she was in, which- for the exception of the miserable Don’t Worry Darling cast- is normally the protocol for actors when doing press to promote movies. Kinda like the “fake orgasm” of the film world. According to The Hollywood Reporter:

“I wasn’t very happy, if I’m being honest, I think I felt a bit caged,” she said.

“The thing I found really hard was that I had to go out and sell something that I really didn’t have very much control over. To stand in front of a film and have every journalist be able to say, ‘How does this align with your viewpoint?’ It was very difficult to have to be the face and the spokesperson for things where I didn’t get to be involved in the process,” she explained.

Watson continued, “I was held accountable in a way that I began to find really frustrating, because I didn’t have a voice, I didn’t have a say. And I started to realize that I only wanted to stand in front of things where if someone was going to give me flak about it, I could say, in a way that didn’t make me hate myself, ‘Yes, I screwed up, it was my decision, I should have done better.’”

Translation: I’m way too rich to deal with this shit!

In the meantime, she’s bringing home checks from writing and directing projects like Prada advertising campaigns and even spilled that we can expect to see a music video directed by her in the future for an artist that she didn’t name but spills, “you will definitely have heard of him.”

While we shouldn’t hold our breath for Emma’s return to the big screen any time soon, she’s also not totally opposed to joining a project if she really likes the story and doesn’t have to “switch into robot mode” while plugging it for press. So from now on, real orgasms only!
