It’s Official: “Scooby-Doo’s” Velma Dinkley Is A Lesbian

Scooby-Doo‘s Velma Dinkley has long been a lesbian icon. The LGBTQ community adopted Velma into our ranks, reading into the subtext of her actions across her mystery-solving career and assessing her lesbianism. Well, guess what people? It wasn’t just hopeful fan-fiction from eager lesbians, it’s true! Tony Cervone, a producer of one of the series has confirmed that Velma Dinkley is a lesbian. And James Gunn, who made the first Scooby-Doo live-action movie, said he tried to cover Velma’s gayness in the movie but got shot down.

Tony worked on Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated which ran from 2010 to 2013. CBR says that when two people were getting into it about the canon of Scooby-Doo and Velma’s lesbianism, Tony decided he would clear things up. The argument was over a character on the show, Marcie Fleach (in the header picture), and whether or not Velma had a thing with her. People claimed Velma may be bisexual because she dated Shaggy in the past. But nope, Tony explained:

“I’ve said this before, but Velma in Mystery Incorporated is not bi. She’s gay. We always planned on Velma acting a little off and out of character while she was dating Shaggy because that relationship was wrong for her and she had unspoken difficulty with the why. There are hints about the why in that episode with the mermaid, and if you follow the entire Marcie arc it seems as clear as we could make it 10 years ago… I don’t think Marcie and Velma had time to act on their feelings during the main timeline, but post reset, they are a couple. You can not like it, but this was our intention.”

Lesbian hints? Did they make Velma go to Home Dept a lot? Where’s her flannel? Tony also posted this on Instagram:

James Gunn co-signed this and revealed that he tried to bring out Velma’s lesbian-ness in the 2002 movie. But he was blocked from having Linda Cardellini‘s Velma be an out lesbian.

James has talked about cuts to the movie in the past, like a kiss between Velma and Daphne (played by THEE lady-kisser of the 90s Sarah Michelle Gellar). He previously said:

“The movie was originally meant to be PG-13 and was cut down to PG after, like, three parents were outraged at a test screening in Sacramento… The studio decided to go a more family-friendly route. Language and jokes and sexual situations were removed, including a kiss between Daphne and Velma. Cleavage was CGIā€™d over… But, thankfully, the farting remained. I thought at the time the rating change was a mistake. I felt like a lot of teens came out for the first film and didnā€™t get what they wanted (and didnā€™t come back for the sequel). But today I donā€™t know. So many young kids loved those movies, which is pretty cool.”

Cowards! The world is ready for a farting lesbian detective in a movie! It’s time! And now that this is out, there is definitely going to be ANOTHER lesbian Velma Dinkley porn spoof. Scooby-Doo And The Mystery Of Velma’s Vagina. Or Scooby-Doo And The Snatch Snatcher. Lesbian Velma Dinkley’s power will only grow!
