Open Post: Hosted By Zola The Seal Singing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”

Animals will do anything for food. And seals like their fish. So they’ll sigh heavily and allow researchers to train them to embarrass themselves for a steady supply of mackerels. Check out Zola, the Scottish gray seal singing “Twinkle, Twnkle, Little Star”.

Scientists at St. Andrews University in Scotland raised the lovable and surprisingly on key Zola from birth to sing! It’s like the Celine Dion story done with seals!

Zola can also sing the theme to Star Wars.

The seals the scientists worked with were “trained to copy sequences of their own sounds, and then to turn those into melodies.” And it looks like seals will be able to speak English in the future:

“It takes hundreds of trials to teach the seal what we want it to do, but once they get the idea they can copy a new sound pretty well at the first attempt,” he said.

I’m not sure if a seal swimming up and asking me how I’m doing or telling my lazy ass to stop pissing into its ocean is going to astonish me or make me scream and run.
